The mud was definitely more of an attraction during this trip than the water.
Especially intriguing was throwing rocks in the mud pits and listening to the "thwunk" sound.
While exploring the mud, we met some nice Forest Falls locals, Sherry, Mike and their dog Grumbles. They told me quite a sad story about the flash flood that had occurred there two days prior. A family of "flatlanders" (as they call us) was visiting the falls when the flood occurred. Their beloved dog was washed away in the flood, right before their eyes.

Mike and Sherry were actually out in the creek that day searching for the dog's body. They were hoping to find it, so that the family could have some sense of closure in their mourning process. I was touched by the compassion these people had for a family they didn't even know. All they knew is how they would feel if it had been their dog lost in the flood.
